My remedy for natural earache relief has saved us so many times over the years. From swimmers ear to an ear infection, this recipe is my go-to for easing ear pain.

We’re in the depths of the sick season, and it seems like everyone and their brother has the crud right now. Sniffles, cough, earaches. If you’re going to be around people, it’s about inevitable.
As much as I’m tempted to batten down the hatches and stay home until spring, life must go on.
Natural Immune Support
One of the best ways to combat ear pain is to avoid it completely by beefing up your immune system. I know this is probably like beating a dead horse because we all know it, but I thought I would share some practical ways I do this for my family.
Using Food to Support Your Immune System
Food is medicine. When you give your body the real, unprocessed foods that it was designed to have, it’s amazing how much more efficiently it works. We’ve gotten so caught up in convenience culture that we’ve lost touch with the blessing that food is, and how simple it can be.
Since this isn’t a post about diet, here are my highlights:
- Healthy fats from animals, not vegetable oils, are insanely powerful.
- Raw milk is a superfood.
- Fermented foods are your gut’s best friend. Sourdough, kraut, kefir, try them all.
- A healthy gut = a healthy immune system

Supplements to Help Support Your Immune System
Going back to gut health, some of my favorite supplements are our probiotics. The kids each take it in powder form in the morning. DōTERRA’s children’s probiotic tastes like a little pixie stick, but packs a powerful punch. This is a great addition to the fermented foods that I add into our diet, because you can only eat so much sour kraut.
I also use a blend of essential oils called On Guard that really helps to support the immune system. It’s a blend of oils that are specifically formulated to fight free-radicals and help your body’s natural antibiotic defenses. We diffuse it, apply it topically, and even take it internally any time we are sick.

Another part of my daily routine is adding trace minerals to my water. The reality is that our modern foods are not as nutrient and mineral rich as they once were, and by adding these to my water I can tell a huge difference in my energy level, immune system, and my water intake. I don’t love drinking water, so this helps me a ton. I buy my trace minerals from Azure Standard here, and so far the raspberry is my favorite flavor.
Support Your Immune System with Good Ol’ Vitamin D
I think we really underestimate just how powerful and healing the sun is to our bodies. Your energy level, mental health, and immune system are hugely influenced by your vitamin D intake. Any time we start feeling like we are getting sick, we go lay out in the sun. Even in the winter, we bundle up and let the sun shine on our faces for a while. It’s such a simple thing, but maybe so simple that it doesn’t always come to mind.
I remember a time early in motherhood when I was completely overwhelmed with a sick baby. The only time either of my children has ever been on an antibiotic was when Creek had an ear infection as a baby, and I panicked because I hadn’t done enough of my own research yet to know how to help him at home. I’m not tooting my own horn or saying there isn’t a need for antibiotics, because they can be a huge blessing. In general though, I think we are too quick to reach for them.
So many common ailments can be addressed at home with natural options. Having these oils at the ready, and making informed decisions based on a lot of personal research has given me so much peace. There is no panic when someone complains of an earache or sore throat. I’ve spent years learning just what to do, and surrounding myself with people who can give me advice from a holistic health standpoint. I can handle it, and you can too.

HEALTHCARE IS NOT ONE SIZE FITS ALL
I believe that we as a society have become much too reliant on modern remedies, when there are natural, safe, effective solutions available that have been used by mankind for thousands of years.
Don’t get me wrong. There are situations that require medical treatment, and I am so thankful and blessed to have those options. I do, however, feel that many visits to the doctor for minor issues can be avoided when we have the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions about natural solutions.
- Solutions that don’t become resistant.
- That don’t have a mile-long list of side-effects.
- Solutions with ingredients we can pronounce.
- That we can use for our children without feeling guilty.
There are oils that will change your world, and I want to share them with you, because I truly believe there is a better way to heal our families, and it’s right under our noses.
BECOME THE HEALER IN YOUR HOME
No one is more invested in the health and well-being of your family than you are. It is up to us as the gatekeepers of our homes. To choose the purest, safest, most effective tools to care for our families. To find solutions that are as unique and personalized as our health issues. Mamas, you’ve found those tools here.
I’ve helped thousands learn how to advocate for themselves. To take charge of their health. To make educated decisions about the products that they allow into their homes and their bodies. I’ve helped them to become empowered to understand and utilize natural solutions for their families.
Ease an Earache at Home
Ingredients
- Lavender essential oil
- Frankincense essential oil
- Tea Tree essential oil
- Basil essential oil
- cotton ball
Directions
Add one drop of each oil to a cotton ball, and place the cotton ball in the ear. This can be repeated several times throughout the day.
Notes
- You never want to drop essential oils directly into the ear canal. Placing them on a cotton ball is a safe alternative.
- I am not a physician and not making medical claims. Do your own research and find what works best for you. I’m happy to answer questions, though!
- You can use any combination of the oils listed above that you have available.
- Other oil options include: Copaiba, On Guard, and Lime (If the ear pain is related to drainage, Lime is wonderful for breaking up mucus and congestion.)
- If you don’t feel comfortable placing the cotton ball of oils in the ear, diluting the oils and applying them around the outside of the ear is a wonderful option.
